The highlight of the calendar of events in 2009 for the railway sector is without a doubt the "International Exhibition for Track Technology – iaf 2009". This trade fair organised by the VDEI (Association of German Railway Engineers) will be held once again in Münster, Germany, from 21st to 23rd April and is already celebrating its 25th anniversary.

For companies associated with the construction and maintenance of railway infrastructure, there is an absolute fixture in their calendar of events every three years: the International Exhibition for Track Technology, in short the iaf. In 2009 the trade fair organised by the Association of German Railway Engineers (VDEI) will take place for the third consecutive time in Münster, Germany. In view of the 25 year anniversary, it is sure to be a trade fair with numerous highlights.

During his tour of the iaf in 2006 Mr. Hartmut Mehdorn, DB AG executive, said he came to the conclusion that "those who come here, save themselves a great deal of travelling". An observation which does not seem in any way an exaggeration in view of the dimensions achieved. The available track space was completely sold out two months prior to the opening of the last iaf in 2006. More than 170 companies from 16 countries presented the very latest technology on over 10,000 m² of covered exhibition space, 8,000 m² of open ground and more than 3,500 metres of track. At the opening of the last fair Dr.Ing. Siegfried Krause, Manager of the VDEI Service GmbH in Berlin and organiser of the "iaf 2006", was very satisfied to report that "the demand for outdoor space was so great, we had to extend the existing 3,000 metres of track on the station grounds right next to the exhibition halls by a further 500 metres".

It goes without saying that Plasser & Theurer will also be participating in the 25th iaf.

The motto of this year's presentation will be
"High capacity - precision - reliability –
track technology by systems".

Plasser & Theurer will display its state-of-the-art machine systems for track laying and track maintenance under this heading, with the main attention focussing on quality of work and cost-efficiency.

On track in the open area, machine systems for the following sectors will be on show:

• Maintenance of tracks and turnouts
• Ballast cleaning including material logistics
• Rail rectification
• Track recording and track surveying

In addition to this, Plasser & Theurer will be dealing with the following topics in the indoor hall:

• Worldwide service organisation
• Provision of original spare parts and wearing parts
• Instruction and training programmes
• Latest results of the research and testing department
