The UMH Universal Material Handling Wagon is a four-axle standard railway vehicle consisting of a collecting conveyor belt, a swivelling conveyor and two ballasting belts arranged beneath the frame on both sides of the vehicle.
The bulk material can be discharged from an MFS wagon behind the UMH vehicle onto its collecting belt; the belt can be shifted into three different positions so that the material can be used in different ways.
If the ballast is discharged into the ballasting system, it will then be used for ballasting the track grid.
If the ballast is discharged onto the chute above the ballasting belts, it will then be placed onto the ballasting belt on the corresponding side and used for ballasting an area of up to 6000 mm from the machine axis.
If the ballast is discharged onto the swivelling belt, this belt can be extended to unload the ballast into material wagons on the adjacent track, or lorries next to the track.
The UMH is equipped with its own energy supply unit ensuring its individual, independent operation.
