The single line consolidation (stabilisation & tamping) machine 09-2X/CM is a 5 bogie type vehicle in articulated design build in compliance with Railway Group Standard RGS GM/RT 2400, issue 5 and created for establishing consolidated layers of ballast as integral part of the ballast processing work carried out by the high output ballast cleaning machine RM 900. During working operation, the 09-2X/CM is coupled to the RM 900 and controlled from the ballast cleaner.
The consolidation machine consists of a front DTS-trailer, the “09-tamping machine” in the centre and a rear DTS-trailer permanently coupled and is equipped with following working elements (all seen in working direction):
- A new ballast transfer conveyor belt for supplying the RM 900 with new ballast
- A DTS unit
- A laser distance and height-measuring unit (“6ft laser”) on bogie no. 2 (DG2)
- A funnel with new ballast insertion chutes ballasting the track
- An “09”-type tamping machine with 2 nos. single/double header tamping banks “2X” (32 tines in total) for tamping one or two sleeper(s) at a time and roller lifting clamps located on the “satellite” unit, ballast deflectors as well as levelling & lining measuring systems incl. ALC – automatic guiding computer
- A new ballast conveyor belt over the entire roof of the “tamping machine” for supplying the above mentioned ballast insertion chutes and the RM 900
- A 2nd DTS unit
- A programmable, electronic multiple-channel recorder DRP including measuring devices
- A 2nd 6ft laser unit installed on bogie no. 5 (DG5)
- A new ballast conveyor belt over the roof area of the trailer receiving new stone from the single line ballast distribution system SLBDS following the ballast cleaner RM 900
Furthermore, the 09-2X/CM is equipped with a simple storage cabin on the front trailer and a workshop cabin positioned on the rear trailer, a tamper operator’s cabin positioned behind the tamping banks on the 09-satellite unit and a cabin located on the rear end of the machine serving as additional storage room.
During working mode, the machine is hydrostatically driven by both axles of bogie no. 4 (DG4). Furthermore, the “satellite bogie” no. 3 (DG3) is also hydrostatically powered during work. The diesel engine sits in a separate, sound insulated engine housing above bogie no. 2 (DG2). The hydraulic plant is installed in a separated compartment in this area as well.
During regular working operations, the entire machine is controlled from one person in the tamper operator’s cabin. Only for shunting movements an operator is located in the rear cabin or on the platform on the front end.
